Yuva Review

By By: Shekhar H Hooli

Earlier, director Narendra Babu had tried his luck with two low budget movies. Both the movies Oh Gulabiye and Pallakki were romantic films and were average hit movies at the Box Office. But this time, he decided to do a movie with big budget. He has fusioned North Indian technicians with south Indian talents and tried to give a feeling of Hollywood through the Kannada movie Yuva.

Narendra Babu"s movie Yuva is a fast paced action thriller. The movie concentrates more on action rather than waving of swords and sickles. Along with Thriller Manju, Bollywood action director Cheetah Yagna Shetty, who has trained many Bollywood actors, has brought out marshal art in all the fight sequences. He has directed wonderful action scenes in Golkond Fort and Ramnagar hilly region, where superhit Bollywood movie Sholay was shot in 1975.

Another plus point of the movie is Bollywood choreographers Saroj Khan and Akbar Khan directed dance sequences. Camera work by Santanio Tarzio and wonderful locations also contribute lot more to the movie. Gurukiran"s music makes the movie run smoothly.

Although Yuva has hair-raising action, interesting choreography and rocking music, it lacks a strong storyline. The story does not have freshness and many of scenes seem to be seen earlier. It has a predictable story line. Comedy sequences have no cohesive relationship with movie. If Yuva had convincing story line, it could have been a good commercial film. However, it serves a message to youths that they need to control their emotionality, which may mar their personality.

Jeeva (Karthik) is an engineering student. He is a Black Belt in karate. His classmate Shridevi (Madhu Sharma) is attracted towards him after seeing his helping nature and decent behavior. She falls in love with him. Jeeva once accidentally kills a big don, whose brother Dhoni decides to take revenge upon him. How Jeeva faces him and becomes one with his lover Shridevi will form the climax of the Story.

Director Narendra Babu has done wonderful job in the movie Yuva. He could have concentrated little more on the story. He seems to have focused more on hero and neglected other characters. He has failed to squeeze out good performance from other lead actors.

Debutant actor Karthik has macho man physique and he appears more dynamic in action and dance sequences, but he needs to improve a lot in other sequences. Madhu Sharma does not have much scope to show her talent in the movie, but she seems to have used the given opportunity to exhibit her magic. Another debutant villain Chandrashekhar has also done wonderful performance.

Bollywood actor Gulshan Grover and Malayalam actor Manoj K Jayan do not have any special impact about their performance. Ramesh Bhat, Shobharaj have been quite effective in their roles.

Besides all these actors, Gurukiran's music, Cheetah Yagnesh Shetty"s acton, Saroj Khan and Akbar Khan"s choreography and Santanio Tarzio"s camera have surely done a magic.

It can be said that Yuva has everything to attract audience except fresh and interesting story.
