Hendthira Darbar – Review

By By: Shekhar H Hooli

Ramesh Aravind"s recent comedy movies like Crazy Kutumba, Krishna Nee Lateagi Baaro and Preethi Inda Ramesh did not work out well at the Box office. Now, his latest movie Hendthira Darbar is yet another comedy, but it suffers from age old predictable storyline and dragging narration.

Director V Shekhar had made the Tamil film Varavu Ettana Selavu Paththana 14 years ago. Now he has entered Kannada with the remake of the same old story. It is a family drama that is sugar coated with humour. Along with the comedy, it also offers an important message to middle-class families, which has been told many times earlier.

The highlights of Hendthira Darbar are Ramesh and Meena"s performance and Rangayana Raghu and Sadhu Kokila"s comedy. But the movie has lots of weaknesses. It lacks good technical values. It has slow and dragging narration, not fresh and predictable storyline, music and camera work are average.

The film revolves around the life of a middle class man who is burdened by the demands of his emotional wife. It shows how man chases after fashionable life and faces troubles. The movie gives a message that one should lead his life according to his earning and if dreams beyond it he is sure to land at trouble.

Shivaramu (Ramesh) is a middle class man, who is working in the Slum Clearance Board. Although he wants to lead a simple life, his wife Radha (Meena), who is impressed by neighbour"s luxurious lifestyle, forces her hubby and children to follow the same. He takes loan to fulfill her desire, which makes him loose his Govt job and find a low-grade job under the hands of a corrupt MLA for lively hood. What happens next will be an interesting subject to watch on screen.

Ramesh Aravind and Meena have given a wonderful performance. Although Sadhu Kokila and Rangayana Raghu have also done well, their performance may not impress all the classes of the audience. The worst part of the film is the acting of G Ramachandran, who plays the politician. Especially, his dialogue delivery, which has lot of Tamil accent, is very much irritating.

There is nothing much to talk about Sadhu Kokila"s music and Raju Mahendran"s cinematography. Both are average. Overall, it can be said although movie Hendthira Darbar has nothing new to offer, it can be a good watch for the fans of Ramesh Aravind, Sadhu Kokila and Rangayana Raghu.
