90 - Movie review

Ninety is a numeric term that is referred to measure alcohol. Despite knowing the fact that alcohol is injurious to health, many people addict to alcohol consumption and kill themselves thereby pushing their families to face the problems. This message has been beautifully carried out on the screen by director Lucky Shankar through his latest Kannada movie 90. With its powerful dialogues, the film is a good entertainer.

The film 90 is a hard-hitting message oriented film and the presence of top comedians of the Kannada film industry is the major highlight of the movie. Tabala Naani's punchy dialogues, the comedy raising out of them and folk songs are the other attractions of the flick.

The film narrates the tragic stories of drunkards in a very comic way in a half dozen episodes, which hold a mirror to the present society. Lucky Shankar has got nice grip on the tempo of the movie. Although there are six different stories, he has nicely bridged the gap between the stories while switching over from one episode to another.

Kokila (Sadhu Kokila) is a film director and he narrates a story to a pickle seller producer (Rangayana Raghu), who doesn"t like it. His friend Raju (Raju Thalikote) takes him to a bar and restaurant, where he meets different characters and hear their real life stories. What happens next will form the climax of the movie.

Sadhu Kokila, Rangayana Raghu, Bullet Prakash, Doddanna, Raju Thalikote, Mithra and Biraadar have already proved that they are best actors. All of them have delivered wonderful performance. It is really a feast to eyes to see them appear together on screen. Shakeela is also good in her role.

Besides good performance, the director has also managed to get the best technical values in the film 90. Sadhu Kokila and Manu's music for folk and songs is good. Kishna Kumar has done a good camera work. Tabala Naani's dialogues are sarcastic and they have lot of punch and force. Many a times, they provoke comedy.

The movie 90 is an unique attempt by the Shankar and it upholds Mahatma Gandhiji's stand on alcoholism. After watching late Dr Rajakumar's stand against drug addicts and alcoholics in the movie Jeevana Chaitra, many women had got down to road and closed down arrack shops. It will not be a surprise if women attempt the same act after watching this film.
