What Is Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act?
A petition titled "Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act" was filed in March 2025. This asks for stricter punishment in such cases. This prevention act has urged the lawmakers of South Korea to raise the age of consent from 16 to 19 years. Currently the law considers a statutory rape if a person is in physical relationship with anyone who is between 13 and 16 years old. However, the petition demands a revision. It says, "We propose raising the age limit to 13-19 and increasing the minimum sentence to at least five years in prison."
Will Kim Soo Hyun Not Face Any Criminal Charges?
Under the name of the Kim Soo Hyun prevention act, the petition read, "A pedophile who seduced and deceived a promising female actress from childhood until her death has evaded the law... (sic) " However, attorney Park Sung Bae says that the things are way too complicated legally. As per Indian Express reports, the attorney said, "Whether Kim Soo Hyun dated Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor is unlikely to become a core legal issue. The family cannot hold him fully accountable, yet the debate has unexpectedly centered on this."
The attorney further accepted that a person above the age of 19 engaging himself in a physical relationship with someone aged 13-16 is considered as "statutory rape." However, Kim Soo-Hyun might shy away from criminal charges as "without her testimony or stronger proof, the case may not go anywhere," says the attorney.
