Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act Update: Kim Soo Hyun has falled into an another trouble amid the ongoing dating scandal with Kim Sae Ron that garnered negative limelight to the Queen of Tears actor for allegedly dating a minor Sae Ron when she was only 15-year-old while he was 27-year-old. Although the actor and his agency Gold Medalist refuted the claims, several proofs by the Bloodhounds actress' family and Garo Sero Institute proved otherwise. Things got intense, when someone filed petition against Kim Soo Hyun under the name of Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act that is formed urging to raise the age limit for statutory rape of minors from 16 years to 19 years.
What Will Happen To Kim Soo Hyun After Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act Is Passed?
The petition on National Assembly Electronic Petition was posted on March 31, 2025, and within a day, it garnered more than 20,000 signatures. The petition needed to garner 50,000+ signatures within 30 days in order to passed for the review from the Korean Parliament. According to the latest reports, the petition form has already crossed 50k signatures within 8 days after it was formed and will now be tranferred to National Assembly Committee.
If the act is turned into a law, it might increase the age limit of minors that protect them from statutory rape under law. The current law protects minors aged from 13-16, while the proposed age limit is upto 19. Also, the punishment is proposed to be increased, >2 years for molestation and >5 years for rapes.
Now, under the current law, Kim Soo Hyun is protected as he claimed that they have dated only from 2019 summer to 2020 fall, when Sae Ron was 19-years-old. If the act is passed, it might bring big trouble for the Knock Off actor, and might face punishment upto 5 years.
