Amid this, a petition is filed named 'Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act' in order to make the punishment more stringent for raping a minor following the Bloodhounds actress' death.

What Is Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act & Why Did It Garner Over 20k Signatures In One Day?

According to the reports of National Assembly Electronic Petition, a petition has been filed naming 'Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act' to request to raise the age of conviction for minors and to strengthen the punishment act. The proposed change in age is from 16 to 19.

A petitioner claimed that Kim Soo Hyun cannot be punished with the current laws as the age limit for statutory rape in South Korea protects only from 13-16 aged children."The statutory rape of a minor only protects children from 13 to 16, so he cannot be punished legally. Although the law defines minors up to 18 years old, the age limit for statutory rape, which protects minors aged 13-16, allows pedophiles to evade the law. To stop this from happening again, I petition for the revision of the statutory rape of minors under the name of the 'Kim Soo Hyun Prevention Act'," the petitioner added. It was also proposed that the punishment should be increased from 2 to 5 years for statutory rape of a minor.

The report further revealed that the petition has garnered over 20,000 signatures in the same day. To note more, if the petition gets 50,000 signatures or more within 30 days will be referred to the National Assembly's subcommittee signifying that it might turn into a law.
