SQUID GAME SEASON 2 RECAP, SPOILERS & ENDING EXPLAINED

After winning the games in Season 1, Gi-hun plans to move to the U.S. to reunite with his daughter. However, he spots The Salesman at the airport, hinting that the games are still ongoing. Gi-hun cancels his trip and stays back in Seoul to stop the deadly operation. The story jumps ahead by three years, revealing that Gi-hun has been secretly using his prize money to track down The Salesman.

Meanwhile, Jun-ho, the detective from Season 1, is now working in traffic and has distanced himself from the violent crimes unit. With no evidence of the games ever found, he reconnects with Captain Park-a boatman who once saved him from death. Together, they attempt to locate the island where the games are held.

As Gi-hun and Jun-ho's missions intersect, they decide to team up against the VIPs. Gi-hun re-enters the game with a tracker hidden in his dental crown. But during transport, the device is removed. Still, he continues playing as Player 456, unaware that Captain Park is actually a mole working for The Front Man.

In a shocking twist, The Front Man disguises himself as Player 001 and befriends Gi-hun once again. He shares a tragic past about losing his family after winning the 2015 Squid Game, hinting at his deeper motivations. The emotional connection between him and Gi-hun mirrors the deception of Season 1.

The finale, Friend or Foe, sees a major revolt inside the game. Players split into two groups-those wanting to quit and those choosing to continue. Gi-hun leads a rebellion with player 001 and others, stealing weapons and trying to expose The Front Man. But The Front Man escapes, regains control, and orders the execution of all rebels. He then kills Gi-hun's ally, player 390, right in front of him, leaving Gi-hun broken and in tears.

In the post-credit scene, new players follow the Red Light, Green Light doll, Young-hee. But this time, a male doll named Cheol-su appears. As the green light flashes, it teases a new and even more thrilling game in Season 3, which director Hwang calls the most exciting yet.
