Actor Vinayakan Faces Possible Three-Year Imprisonment; DCP Investigates Allegations Of Abuse

DCP Sheds Light On Case Against Actor Vinayakan: In a recent development, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Kochi has provided an explanation regarding the allegations involving actor Vinayakan, who created a disturbance at a local police station and was subsequently released under what some have considered to be weak charges.
The DCP clarified that legal proceedings against Vinayakan have not concluded, and he has been charged with an offence that carries a maximum punishment of up to three years in prison. DCP S Sasidharan, addressing the media in Kochi, revealed that an investigation is ongoing into the complaint filed by Vinayakan's wife.
A case has been officially registered against the actor, stemming from an incident in which he was found causing a disturbance while under the influence of alcohol in a public place. This particular offence is subject to a potential prison sentence of up to three years.
Additionally, a separate case has been filed against Vinayakan for misbehaving with police officials, which could result in a maximum prison term of two years. The DCP further noted that video footage of the incident will be re-examined to determine if the actor used abusive language towards the police officers, which may lead to additional charges.
DCP Sasidharan emphasized that the police would not be influenced by external factors, highlighting that Vinayakan had visited the station earlier and had caused disruptions. The police had initially intervened based on a complaint related to Vinayakan's personal matter, though the DCP refrained from disclosing further details, citing the issue's personal nature.
MLA Uma Thomas Raises Concerns Over Weak Charges
Meanwhile, MLA Uma Thomas has expressed concerns about the handling of Vinayakan's case and the nature of the weak charges brought against him. Uma Thomas questioned whether the actor received bail and was released under what she described as the "privilege of being a comrade" with these weak charges.
She pointed out that media reports had shown Vinayakan's alleged abusive behaviour towards police officers and alleged that Vinayakan is a drug addict. She raised doubts about whether Vinayakan was released due to any special treatment or if there were political influences.
She noted that these circumstances undoubtedly impact the morale of the dedicated police force, which tirelessly upholds their duty with dignity. She called for a closer examination of the circumstances surrounding the actor's release.
The incident unfolded at Ernakulam Town Police Station last evening, stemming from a domestic dispute. Following this, Vinayakan called the police to his residence near Kaloor. In the past as well, the actor had called the police to his residence near Kaloor after a similar incident.
This time, upon the police's arrival at the flat, both parties provided statements. Unsatisfied with the initial response, Vinayakan followed the police to the station and also requested the identity proof of a female officer within the police team. During his time at the station, he was reported to have smoked, resulting in a fine from the police. Subsequently, an altercation erupted, involving Vinayakan and the Sub-Inspector (SI).
