Kerala State Film Awards Announcement Tomorrow: The announcement of the Kerala State Film Awards, which was postponed due to the demise of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, will take place tomorrow.
Culture Minister Saji Cherian will announce the winners at a press conference to be held at the Secretariat's PR Chamber at 3 pm on Friday.
Originally scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the award announcement was postponed as a part of mourning following the death of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
This time, there were 156 films competing. Due to the large number of films, a three-tier jury will decide the verdict. Thirty percent of the films evaluated by the two preliminary level juries (sub-committees) will be sent to the final jury. If there is any dispute regarding films judged by the preliminary jury, the final jury can demand a screening. The presidents of both the juries will also be part of the final jury.
In the first sub-committee, director, art director, and painter Nemam Pushparaj is the chairman, and the members are writers VJ James, Dr. KM Sheeba, and art director Roy P Thomas. Director K M Madhusudan chairs the second committee, and the members include producer B K Rakesh, directors Sajaz Rahman, and Vinod Sukumaran.
The final jury, chaired by Bengali director and actor Gautam Ghosh, includes cinematographer Harinair, sound designer D Yuvraj, actress Gauthami, and playback singer Jency Gregory, in addition to the chairmen of the sub-committees.
Usually, all Malayalam Television news channels will broadcast the award announcement live. Additionally, the live press conference will be accessible on the Facebook pages of both the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and the Minister of Culture, Saji Cherian.
While discussions revolve around various categories, the spotlight shines brightest on the Best Actor, Best Film, and Best Director races. In 2022, several actors delivered exceptional performances in remarkable films.
According to reports, Mammootty and Kunchacko Boban are the main contenders for the best actor award. In 2022, Mammootty portrayed diverse characters in three outstanding films: Kuttan in the psychological drama "Puzhu," Luke Antony in the psychological thriller "Rorschach," and James/Sundaram in Lijo Jose Pellissery's "Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam." Mammootty's experimentation and refined acting skills were evident in each of these roles.
Kunchacko Boban also has a significant presence in the Best Actor race. His noteworthy performances in films like "Nna Thaan Case Kodu," where he showcases a distinct appearance and acting style, the political thriller "Pada," and Mahesh Narayanan's "Ariyippu" have garnered award potential.
Prithviraj Sukumaran may be a contender for Best Actor, thanks to his roles as Adv./DCP Aravind Swaminathan IPS in the legal thriller "Jana Gana Mana" and Abdulla Marakkar in "Theerppu." Indrans could secure the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Kuttichayan in "Udal," while Alencier Lopez's performance as Ittychan in "Appan" might also be recognised.
Movies In The Final Round
"Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam," directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery; Appan, directed by Maju; "Saudi Vellakka," directed by Tharun Moorthy; "Ariyippu," directed by Mahesh Narayanan; "Ela Veezha Poonchira," directed by Shahi Kabir; and "Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey," directed by Vipin Das, are in the running for the Best Film and Director awards. As is often the case, we cannot rule out the possibility that a film of artistic value outside the mainstream may win the Best Picture Award.
