Kanakalatha's
journey
in
the
entertainment
world
began
with
amateur
dramas
and
eventually
progressed
to
professional
theater.
However,
she
is
currently
facing
a
challenging
phase
in
her
life
due
to
her
health.
Kanakalatha
has
been
diagnosed
with
Parkinson's
disease
and
dementia,
with
symptoms
manifesting
in
December
2021.
In
an
interview
with
Grihalakshmi,
her
sister
Vijayamma
revealed
that
the
initial
signs
were
not
given
much
attention,
but
her
condition
worsened,
leading
to
memory
loss.
She
has
reached
a
point
where
she
struggles
to
remember
even
her
own
name.
Challenges
Of
Memory
Loss
And
Health
Struggles
Her
memory
loss
extends
to
everyday
activities,
as
she
no
longer
recognises
hunger
or
thirst
and
even
finds
it
difficult
to
swallow
saliva.
Vijayamma
shared
that
the
doctors
have
informed
them
of
the
shrinking
of
Kanakalatha's
brain,
which
will
eventually
impact
her
ability
to
eat
properly.
Vijayamma
described
the
visible
physical
changes,
with
Kanakalatha
becoming
extremely
thin
due
to
her
decreased
food
intake.
She
has
even
cut
her
curly
hair
and
spends
her
time
sitting
on
a
settee,
watching
TV.
Her
mobility
has
been
severely
affected,
making
it
impossible
for
her
to
walk.
While
she
can
still
recognise
family
members,
her
overall
memory
and
cognitive
functions
have
significantly
declined.
Kanakalatha
divorced
in
2005,
and
the
relationship
did
not
result
in
any
children.
After
her
elder
brother's
passing,
she
took
responsibility
for
raising
his
three
children
when
she
was
going
through
a
difficult
phase
in
her
life.
At
present,
her
son
and
his
family
are
providing
care
and
support
for
Kanakalatha
and
Vijayamma.
