Subbalakshmi Passed Away: Actress R. Subbalakshmi (87), widely recognized for her portrayals of grandmother roles in Malayalam cinema, has passed away. Notably, she was the mother of acclaimed actress Tara Kalyan.

Fondly remembered for her endearing portrayal as 'Muthashi' in the movie "Kalyanaraman," Subbalakshmi had a significant presence in commercial films as well. Her demise was revealed to her fans through a post shared by actress Seema G Nair.

Subbalakshmi's Illustrious journey As A Musician And Performer

Born into a Brahmin family in Thiruvananthapuram, Subbalakshmi hails from a lineage steeped in musical tradition, cultivating her own talents in music during her formative years. Her dedication led her to work as a music teacher at Jawahar Balabhavan for nearly 27 years, while also contributing to Akashvani.

Post-retirement, she transitioned in front of the camera through an advertisement for 'Horlicks'. Her serendipitous introduction to the film industry occurred when she met Siddique on the sets of a television series with her daughter, the accomplished dancer and actress Tara Kalyan. This encounter paved her way into the world of cinema, making her debut as one of the housemaid's grandmothers in the blockbuster 'Nandanam,' directed by Ranjith and produced by Siddique.

Subbalakshmi's cinematic journey witnessed her essaying numerous grandmother roles in various films, showcasing her versatility in both comedic and substantial character portrayals. Beyond the silver screen, she made a remarkable presence in multiple television serials and talk shows.

Her notable roles in films like 'Kalyanaraman,' 'Pandippada,' 'Nandanam,' and 'Rappakal' earned her recognition and admiration. She even ventured into film background singing by lending her voice to a song in 'Marykkundoru Kunjaadu.'
