While Mammootty's starrer continues to thrive in theatres, setting records in box office collections, it may come as a surprise to many that a real 'Kannur Squad' once existed within the Kerala police force. The film itself serves as an adaptation of a true incident that unfolded in Kerala.

As per a Mathrubhumi report, 'Kannur Squad' was an investigative unit of police officers dedicated to solving mysteries surrounding various crimes and apprehending perpetrators both within and outside of Kerala. This team of dedicated officers operated diligently for a decade, from 2007 to 2017. It was comprised of senior civil police officers, including P Vinod Kumar, K Manoj Kumar, Rafi Muhammad, CK Rajasekharan, C Sunil Kumar, Reji Scaria, and K Jayarajan, all under the leadership of Baby George, the additional sub-inspector.

As per reports, a tragic incident occurred on August 4, 2013, at the residence of Abdul Salam Haji, an industrialist and a Kasaragod native. Around 11 p.m., a gang of robbers forcibly entered his home, launched an assault on his family, and initiated a theft of their gold and finances. Upon realising that they had exhausted all available resources in the house, they resorted to the unfortunate act of taking Haji's life before making a hasty escape.

The murder occurred in a well-fortified residence with advanced security measures, including CCTV cameras, among other things. This incident sent shockwaves throughout the state. Subsequently, the Kannur Squad embarked on a daring mission, successfully capturing the culprits, who were located a staggering 6,000 kilometres away from the site of the crime.

While drawing inspiration from this incident, the film has introduced various elements and changes to provide an intense and thrilling experience for the audience. Nevertheless, the performances by Mammootty and the ensemble cast, along with other creative and technical aspects, consistently leave those seeking a heart-pounding thriller astonished.

Cast And Crew Of 'Kannur Squad'

'Kannur Squad' is directed by Roby Varghese Raj, making his directorial debut. The screenplay is co-written by Muhammed Shafi and Rony David Raj. The film stars Mammootty in the lead role as ASI George Martin, alongside Vijayaraghavan, Rony David Raj, Kishore Kumar G, Shabareesh Varma, and Sunny Wayne.

The cast also includes Azees Nedumangad, Sajin Cherukayil, Deepak Parambol, Gibin Gopinath, and Sarath Sabha. 'Kannur Squad' marks the fourth production of Mammootty Kampany, following 'Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam.' Muhammed Rahil handles the cinematography, Praveen Prabhakar manages the editing, and Sushin Shyam is responsible for the music. The movie is distributed by Wayfarer Films (India) and Truth Global Films (UAE).
