The title of the film was disputed by N. S. Madhavan, who argued that it infringed on his right to use the same name for a film adaptation of his short story, "Higuita." Despite this controversy, "Higuita" was released on March 31, 2023.

Based on the latest reports, "Higuita" is set to make its digital streaming debut on Saina Play starting June 28. Audiences can now experience this intense narrative from the comfort of their homes on the popular streaming platform, Saina Play.

Higuita Synopsis

Left-wing leader Pannyannoor Mukundhan, shaped by the intense political struggles of Malabar, constantly faces threats of violence and assassination. Ayyapa Das, a new recruit in the police force, is assigned as his bodyguard. Das's decision to join the police was driven by his family's dire financial situation following the death of his father, who was also a civil police officer. "Higuita" narrates the story of two starkly contrasting individuals-Mukundhan and Das-working closely together amidst the inevitable tensions that arise from their conflicting worlds.

Rahul Raj was initially signed in 2020 to compose both the songs and the score for the film. However, due to delays pushing the project to 2022, he ended up only composing the songs. Scheduling conflicts prevented him from working on the background score, leading to Dawn Vincent being brought on board to complete the film's score.
