Harikumar Passed Away: Renowned Malayalam director and screenwriter Harikumar has passed away at the age of 67. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer and died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. His passing marks the end of an illustrious career that spanned several decades and left a lasting impact on the Malayalam film industry.

Harikumar's Journey In Cinema

Harikumar made his directorial debut with the film Aambal Poovu in 1981, starring Sukumari and Jagathy Sreekumar. His reputation as a skilled director and screenwriter grew over the years, especially with the 1994 film Sukrutham, which was based on a screenplay by M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Sukrutham, featuring Mammootty and Gautami in lead roles, received widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics, earning the National Award for Best Malayalam Film.

Throughout his career, Harikumar directed around sixteen films, including notable titles such as Jaalakam, Oozham, Ayanam, Udyanapalakan, Swayamvara Panthal, and Ezhunnallathu. His last directorial effort was Autorickshawkarante Bharya, which was based on a script by M. Mukundan and starred Suraj Venjaramood and Anne Augustine in the leading roles.

Apart from his work in filmmaking, Harikumar also served on the National Award Jury in 2005 and 2008, further solidifying his contribution to the Indian film industry.
