Srinivasan, the talented script writer helps Mammootty for a come back through this simple but sensational script, Katha Parayumbol. The film takes us to a quiet little hamlet called Melukavu, where lives barber Balan (Srinivasan) with his family comprising of wife Sreedevi (Meena) and three kids. He runs an old-fashioned salon, but is in a crisis, when a modern salon opens up right opposite to his own. Balan tries hard to get a loan to buy a revolving chair and new equipment to modify his salon. But the idealist that he is, Balan doesn't like to bribe authorities or go out of the way, and hence he doesn't get the loan. Things become even more critical for Balan and his family.

All of a sudden everything that changes one-day when superstar Ashok Raj (Mammootty) comes to the sleepy village to shoot his new film. Life takes a U-turn for Balan as the superstar crazy villagers come to know that Balan is a childhood friend of Ashok Raj! Now all the villagers, who spurned Balan want to be his friend, so that they can get close to the superstar and go on a celebrity chase. But Balan is made of different mettle and refuses to acknowledge or meet Asok Raj, leading to a stunning climax.
