Asin was last seen in Malayalam in the film Narendran Magan Jayakanthan Vaga. She has come a long way since then. If M Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi gave her a big break in Tamil, it was Ghajini that solidified her position in the industry.

In the film, she was Kalpana, the bubbly heroine of Surya's Sanjay Ramaswamy. Kalpana is an adorable girl who wants to become a successful model, but doesn't want to betray people who trust her either.

How was your career when you before entered to Tamil film field?
"I began my career with Puri Jagannath's Amma Naana O Tamil Ammayi. I won the Andhra Pradesh state award for the film. When it was remade in Tamil, the hero's character was altered a lot to give him more prominence. I then acted in Shivamani 99848022338 with Nagarjuna in the lead. There were a few other films too. Then I entered Tamil.

Tell us about your first Tamil film?
"My first film in Tamil was director Jeeva's Ullam Ketkumae. But the first film to be released was M Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi," she said.

In Ghajini you play the role of a model. Even in real life, you were a model before becoming an actress. Are you anything like the role that you had played?
No!!! Kalpana of Ghajini loves to utter silly lies. That's not me in real life. But I do share the lively trait with her.

What was it like to act with Surya?
It was a wonderful experience. He is a professional when it comes to acting.

We heard that they had a different pair in mind...
It wasn't the heroine. They were planning to get Ajith to play the lead role. Surya had stepped in later.

You were acting in a film with Ajith too. How much has it progressed?
The film's name is Godfather. Shooting is on.

How did you end up in Telugu?
After completing Narendran Magan Jayakanthan Vaga I had decided to concentrate on my studies and stay away from films for a while. I had modeled in a few commercials. Director Puri Jagannath saw the ads and invited me to act in the film. In Telugu, the film was heroine-oriented. When they remade it in Tamil, there were lots of drastic changes.

You had acted with Nadia Moidu in the film. What was the experience like?
It was a great experience. Jayasudha had played the role in Telugu.
