Item girls gets eight Tamil offers

Mamta Mohandas probably suffered an irreversible damage due to her glamorous performance in Lanka but there is one actress in Malayalam whose career had greatly benefited due to starring in glamorous roles. Suja's first claim to fame was the item number 'Sona, Sona' in 'Ben Johnson'. She then appeared in films like Chacko Rendaaman, Parayaam, Ponmudipuzhaoram and Indrajit. "I have eight new offers in Tamil too," she says. They include films like Lee, Killaadi, Muthal Kanavae, Achcchacho, Madurai Veeran, Kaanal Neer and Vaitheeshwaran.

She is now working in Pallikoodam, the film starring Naren and Sneha in the lead roles. "I'm known as glamour girl. But I make it a point to not wear vulgar costumes," she says.

Do you think the item number trend is catching on in Malayalam too?
I object to the term 'Item number'. Situation song is the apt word.

You've become busy in Malayalam and Tamil. How about Telugu?
I still haven't received any new offer in Telugu.

On the other hand, while just about every other actress who had come to Malayalam is now busy looking for offers in Tamil and Telugu. That had created an acute shortage of heroines in Malayalam.This had made other language actresses like Padhmapriya very popular now. The most recent entrant to Malayalam is Radhika. She made her debut in Classmates. Now, another heroine from North is getting ready to make her debut in Malayalam. Best Friends launches Anitha Patel in Malayalam.

Sunil P Kumar is the director. When asked what her greatest strength is, she says that her looks, which bear a striking resemblance with most Malayali girls, is her greatest asset. The big question is- how long will she stay in Malayalam before switching to Tamil and Telugu? Will she become a challenge to Padhmapriya, who is fast becoming the No 1 heroine in Malayalam now?
