Prithviraj and Urvashi bags awards

Kerala State Films Awards has come up with some surprise winners. The Minister for Cultural Affairs, MA Baby and jury chairman T.K. Rajiv Kumar announced the list of winners on Friday, the 9th of February. Prithviraj wins the best actor award for his performance in Vaastavam and Urvashi, the best actress award for Madhuchandralekha. Though it was a pleasant surprise to see a young actor win the award, it remains a mystery as to why Mammooty did not win the title in spite of excellent performances in films like Karuthapakshikal and the recent Kaioppu. Even Mohanlal's name was making the rounds for his immense performance in Keerthichakra.

Drishtantham directed by MP Sukumaran Nair won the award for the best film. The award for the best director was won by Lenin Rajendran for Ratrimazha. Rathrimazha has grabbed several honours. Ramesh Narayan is the best music director, Sreenivasan the best male singer and Sujatha the best female singer. Madhu Gopinath and Saji Vaikkom get the best choreographers' award for Rathrimazha.

Yet another surprise winner this year was Roshan Andrew's Notebook, which won the award for the second best film. The film which initially created lot of controversy gradually picked up collections at the box office.

Classmates, is predictably, the movie to get the special award for the most popular film. Prabha Varma is judged the best lyricist for his song in Out of Syllabus, Saikumar wins the second best male actor award for Anandabhairavi, Padmapriya is the second best female actor for her fantastic acting in Karutha Pakshikal and Yes, Your Honour.
