AMMA Awards Presented in UAE

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal was honoured with the annual best actor award by AMMA in a function at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates. Noted poet O.N.V. Kurup presented the citation to Mohanlal. Mohanlal grabbed national attention recently when he was recommended to the Defence Ministry for the honorary title of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army (TA), a citizen's force of the Indian army.

Meera Jasmine received the best actress award for from Gopa Kumar of Al Rwabi. For his comprehensive contribution to Malayalam cinema, Thilakan received an award from Moosa Haji. AMMA treasurer and popular actor Mukesh received the best supporting actor award for his performances in Katha Parayumbol (directed by M. Menon and written by Sreenivasan) and Innathe Chinthavishayam (Satyan Anthikad).

The best music director award went to M. Jayachandran for Kadha Parayumbol and Madambi. Samvritha Sunil was given the best supporting actress award for Thirakkatha and Minnaminnikoottam. Salim Kumar received the best comedian award for his performance in Kadha Parayumbol and Mulla; Sai Babu was presented the best costumer award for Kurukshethra. Best playback singer awards went to Vineeth Sreenivasan and Swetha.

Sreenivasan, Innocent, Bhama, Sreedevika, Parunthu Jayan, Major Ravi, M. Mohanan, M. Jayachandran, M.J. Radhakrishnan, E.M. Ashraf, Santhosh Damodar also received various awards in the function. After the awards ceremony, a musical fiesta was presented by singers Rimi Tomy, Manjari, Sweta, Anwar, Raji Damodar and Kollam Shafi.
