In a move against the decision to collect a deposit of Rs. 25,000 for granting voting rights to members, one of the two factions in the Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA), led by the erstwhile general secretary director Vinayan, has decided to boycott the upcoming fresh elections in MACTA scheduled to take place next week.

Directors Mohan and Baiju Kottarakkara, representatives of the faction, said that they are boycotting the elections to the directors and writers' union of MACTA, following the illegal attempts of the other faction headed by director Siddhique to take over the Federation.

They alleged that the decision to collect a deposit for granting voting rights for members seemed to be a planned move by the rivals to take control of the organization.

Meanwhile, the ad-hoc committee formed by the Indian Film Employees Confederation (IFEC) at a Chennai meet held in June, will hold the elections to the 12 unions on September 6 and 7 at Sacred Heart High School, Thevara.
