Meera Jasmine bags the 1st Srividya Award

Meera Jasmine, the actress known for her talent and beauty haswon the Srividya award for her excellent performance in Malayalam movies.

K.B. Ganesh Kumar, Chairman of the MLV Srividya Charitable Society, said that a jury comprising of veterans like Malayalam film director Siddique has chosen Meera Jasmine for the award.

"She has been chosen for the first Srividya award for her role in Ore Kadal by Shyamaprasad. The award would be given on the second death anniversary of actress Srividya, which falls on this Sunday", said Kumar.

Srividya, one of the best actresses in Southern Screen died on Oct 16, 2006 due to cancer.

During her last days, she had wished to establish a charitable trust in her name after her death and regularly give awards to best actresses in the South Indian film world.

Ganesh Kumar, a sitting MLA in Kerala Assembly is now going to fulfill her last wish through a Charitable Trust launched after her name. "We have also decided to start a Cancer Foundation in Srividya's memory and would work in tandem with the regional cancer centre here by financially supporting women patients who cannot meet the treatment costs," Kumar said.
