PBS gets Kamukara Award

Renowned South Indian playback singer Prathivadhi Bhayankara Sreenivas, popularly known as P.B. Sreenivas (PBS), was selected for the Kamukara Award instituted by the Kamukara Foundation for his contributions to South Indian film music, especially in Malayalam.

The award carries a purse of Rs. 25,000, citation and a memento designed by artist Bhattathiri. The award will be presented to Sreenivas at a function to be held in Kochi in November.

Sreenivas, the man with a melodious voice, is one of the senior playback singers in India. He has rendered several hit numbers set to tunes by M.S. Viswanathan. After almost four decades, the singer has been recently assigned to sing a song in a Tamil movie Ayirathil Oruvan by Selvaraghavan.

Although Sreenivas is best-known for his melodious playback singing in Kannada films, he is fluent in eight languages including English and Urdu. He has penned several ghazals in Tamil as well.
