Perhaps,
it
was
very
exciting
news
recently
in
Malayalam
film
industry
that
Sumalatha,
one
of
the
most
popular
actresses
from
the
mid
eighties
to
the
nineties,
would
soon
return
to
Malayalam
after
a
long
time
with
the
upcoming
Prithviraj
movie
Calendar,
directed
by
debutant
Mahesh.
Disappointingly,
the
actress,
who
initially
agreed
to
enact
an
important
role
as
actress
Navya's
mother
in
this
film,
has
opted
out
of
the
project.
But
why?
She
is
unable
to
fulfill
the
contract
due
to
her
involvement
in
a
tight
political
campaign
by
her
husband
politician-turned-Kannada
superstar
Ambareesh
for
the
forthcoming
Lok
Sabha
elections
in
Karnataka.
Next,
director
Mahesh
approached
another
popular
South
Indian
actress
Mohini
for
the
same
role,
but
she
too
declined.
Next
was
the
turn
of
actress
Sita,
refused
the
role
due
to
the
tight
schedule
in
her
call
sheet.
It
is
now
said
that
noted
Malayalam
and
Tamil
actress
Rohini
(ex-wife
of
late
actor
Raghuvaran)
has
finally
agreed
to
enact
the
role.
In
Calendar,
Rohini
will
play
a
character
named
Thangam
George,
a
widowed
professor
who
lives
for
her
only
daughter
Kochu
Rani
(Navya
Nair).
In
her
career
spanning
more
than
23
years,
it
is
the
first
time
that
Rohini
accepts
the
role
of
a
widow.
In
2007,
Rohini
played
a
prominent
role
as
Nirmala,
wife
of
violinist
Issac
played
by
Lal,
in
director
Ranjith's
Mohanlal
starrer
Rock
n
Roll,
marking
her
re-entry
into
Malayalam
after
a
long
gap.
She
also
appeared
in
Thalappavu
(2008)
by
actor-director
Madhupal.
Planned
as
a
hilarious
comedy,
Calendar
will
have
Prithviraj
in
the
lead
as
Sojashan
Olikkara.
Other
cast
members
include
Mukesh,
Jagadeesh,
Jagathy
Sreekumar,
Vijayaraghavan,
Mallika
Sukumaran
and
Sooraj
Venjaranmoodu.
Babu
Janardhanan
pens
the
script
for
Calendar,
which
has
already
started
shooting
at
Kottayam
last
week.
Calendar
will
be
Prithviraj"s
Vishu
release.
