Sufi
Paranja
Katha
(What
the
Sufi
Said),
the
third
venture
of
director
Priyanandanan,
who
recently
won
the
best
feature
film
award
for
Pulijanmam
at
the
National
Film
Awards
2006,
will
start
shooting
from
7th
December.
The
movie
is
an
adaptation
of
famous
Malayalam
writer
K.P.
Ramanunni's
first
novel
'Sufi
Paranja
Katha'
which
won
the
Kerala
Sahitya
Akademi
award
and
Edasseri
award.
Set
in
the
backdrop
of
the
early
nineteenth
century
of
Northern
Kerala,
Sufi
Paranja
Katha
narrates
the
fascinating
story
of
the
subtle
relationships
that
existed
between
Hindu
and
Muslim
families.
The
movie
evolves
around
the
inter-religious
marriage
between
a
Muslim
and
a
Hindu,
Mammootty
and
Karthy.
Karthy
belongs
to
a
Nair
family
(Melepullarath
Tharavad).
Though
converted
to
Islam,
Karthy
is
unable
to
resist
the
primeval
tug
of
her
original
religion.
The
theme
of
the
film
is
that
no
one
is
free
from
his
cultural
heritage
of
generations,
irrespective
of
the
religion
that
one
is
born
into
or
chooses.
Bengali
actress
Sharbhani
Mukherjee
is
the
heroine.
Other
cast
members
include
Babu
Antony,
Innocent,
Jagathy,
Mullanezhi,
Thambi
Antony,
Indrans,
Mala
Aravindan,
Vineeth
Kumar,
Manikandan,
Samvritha
and
Sona
Nair.
Script
and
dialogues
are
handled
by
the
novelist
himself,
while
camera
is
by
Hari
Nair.
Produced
by
Kayal
Films
in
association
with
U.S-based
Silicon
Media,
the
movie
is
expected
to
be
released
by
Vishu
next
year.
