Adoor Bhavani passes away

The grand old mother has vacated the screen. Veteran actress Adoor Bhavani who has essayed many memorable roles passed away at her residence at Pannivizha near Adoor on Sunday afternoon. She was 82.

The great actress had breathed life into many characters and Sethu Ramaiyar CBI in 2004 was her last movie. The actress had been bed-ridden for nearly one year following a bone injury, Osteoporosis. The body has been kept at Adoor Town Hall since 11 am on Monday for the people to pair their homage to the departed soul. The last rites would be performed later today at around 2pm at her son"s residence at Pannivizha, Adoor with State honours.

Born in 1927, Adoor Bhavani"s entry into the film fraternity was sheer coincidence. She used to accompany her younger sister Adoor Pankajam to the shooting locations and when Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair realized the acting talent of Bhavani, he offered her a role in Shariyo Thetto. Bhavani who stepped into the industry at the age of 24, then went onto essay several memorable roles in Malayalam movies like Chemmeen, Mudiyanaya Puthran,Thulabharam, Anubhavangal Paalichakal and Oru CBI Diary Kurippu.

The actress won the Kerala State Film Award for the second best actress in 1969 for her marvelous performances in Kallichellamma and Kadalppaalam. However her role of Chakki in Chemmeen is still remembered by all film lovers all over the world. The actress has performed roles like that of a mother, sister, grandmother and mother-in-law with utmost perfection and ease.

Adoor Bhavani has also worked with the KPAC and has made much contribution to the theatre. Her remarkable plays are Thulabharam and Veluthambi Dalava. The sisters had formed their own theatre Jaya Theatres at Adoor. Bhavani"s husband Janardanan Pillai had passed away and she is survived by son Rajeev Kumar.

Many dignitaries like Anto Antony, MP, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Adoor Prakash, Joseph M.Puthusserry, MLAs, Pandalam Sudhakaran, former minister, actor Sureshgopi, and film director B.Unnikrishnan paid their respects to the great actress.
