42nd Goa International Film Festival began yesterday on November 23rd with Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan lighting the lamp at 5 pm to inaugurate the festival at Inox theatre complex situated at banks of Mandovi river banks in Panaji. Adoor Gopalakrishnan is the jury chairman of Goa International film festival.
The inaugural Portuguese film The Counsel of Borde narrates the story of Portuguese general Counsel Dizouza, who rescued about 30,000 people in the second world war. 100 films from 65 countries will be screened in various categories in the festival.
Shanker Mohan, who has been the director of Goa Film Festival for the past many years will manage this year's festival too. Adoor Gopalakrishnan is the jury chairman of International competition film category. Shaji N Karun has made the signature film in 3D for the first time in the history of world cinema festival. Out of the 24 films of Indian panorama, seven films are from Malayalam.
Inaugural film of the Indian Panorama category will be Santhosh Sivan's Urumi. 14 films will be showcased in the International competition category. Adaminte Makan Abu, directed by Salim Ahmed is the only Indian film to be screened in this category. It will be screened in the Indian panorama section too. Other Malayalam films to be showcased in the Indian panorama are Traffic, Chappa Kurissu, Melvilasam, Karmayogi and Bombay March 12.
