AMMA hikes monthly pension for veteran artistes

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has decided to increase the monthly pension of its veteran artistes from Rs. 2,500 to Rs.4,000. The AMMA has made an official announcement on Sunday. The Association has also included names of 21 new artistes' names in the monthly 'Kaineetam' (pension scheme).

In the annual general meeting of the AMMA held in Kochi, treasurer Jagdish said that the Association has decided to hike the monthly pension from Rs. 2,500 to Rs.4,000. He added that the total number of the members, who are included in this scheme, has touched 81 with the addition of 21 more veteran artistes.

Meanwhile, Jagadish said that the Association is planning to increase the funds of the AMMA. “With the present funds, this scheme will go smoothly for another three years and by then we will have to think ways of putting more money into the fund. It could be either through the conduct of a show or even produce a film like we did the last time," the AINS quotes him as saying.

The annual general meeting of the AMMA was attended by the superstars like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Jayaram, Dileep and many others. Actor-turned-minister KB Ganesh Kumar was also present at the meeting. The association also took some important decisions on management of Chitranjali Film Studio, tackling video piracy, permanent headquarters for AMMA and initiative in charity.
