Mammootty, Mohanlal accused of tax evasion

Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal have been accused of suppressing income. IT officials conducted daylong raids at the actors" residences, offices, business establishments and other properties on Friday, July 22. And they are said to have received definite indication for the stars' tax evasion.

“We have seen disparities between the income shown in I-T returns filed by them and investments they have made. We can quantify it only after scrutinising income statements, investment details, and other records. It will take time. We also have to question the stars before finalising our estimates of their assets," the TOI quotes a senior IT official as telling.

The IT raids on Mammootty and Mohanlal started at 6 am on Friday and have been temporarily halted. IT officials have already questioned Mammootty for about seven hours and they will have to question him again before finalising their assessment of the scale of income suppression. Mohanlal was busy shooting in Rameshwaram and he is likely to be questioned either on Monday (July 25) or Tuesday (July 26).
