Actress Mamta Mohandas is reportedly set to replace Nayantara in Mammootty's next movie Mathilukalkkappuram, which will start rolling in the first week of March. According to sources, Mamta will be playing the character named Narayani in the film in Thanjavur.
Mathilukalkkappuram is being produced under Mammootty's production banner Playhouse. Earlier, the names of Nayantara, Asin and Vidya Balan were doing rounds for the female lead in the film. But the film bosses are finally said to have roped in Mamta Mohandas as the heroine.
Mathilukalkkappuram, which has the story and direction of debutant Prasad, is a sequel to Adoor Gopalakrishnan's 1990 classic Mathilukal. The character Narayani was not shown on screen in Mathilukal, but only her voice was heard. Whereas in the sequel, Narayani, played by Mamta, will be shown on screen.
However, the Malayalam actress has already acted in Mammootty's movies like Big B and Bus Conductor, but not as his heroine. Mamta had essayed the character roles. Now, she is set to star as Mammootty's heroine in the film Mathilukalkkappuram.
