The year 2012 has been extremely good for Malayalam films so far, and biggies are yet to release. Here is a glimpse of the famous 10 Malayalam films released this year, which turned out to be blockbusters.
This year was 'experimental' in nature as far as Malayalam cinema is concerned. Films like 22 Female Kottayam, Diamond Necklace, Beautiful, Run Baby Run and Ustad Hotel to name a few proved that Mollywood is ready to experiment with a new genre of film making. The audience too seemed equally ready to accept this change.
Fahad Fazil is one actor who swept the Malayalam film industry by storm and this year truly belongs to him. This year also saw the debut of superstar Mammootty's son Dulquar Salman. Dulquar won the hearts of the audience by his outstanding performance in Second Show and Ustad Hotel.
Another person who proved he was a terrific actor and scriptwriter is Anoop Menon. His film Beautiful is definitely one of the best films released this year. Anoop proved it once again with the film Trivandrum Lodge.

Ustad Hotel
Ustad Hotel, written by Anjali Menon and directed by Anwar Rasheed stars Dulquer Salmaan, Nithya Menon and Thilakan in the lead roles. The film is about the strong bond between Karim, a Sufi Muslim, and his grandson Faizi.
Thattathin Marayathu
Thattathin Marayathu is a musical romantic film written and directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, starring Nivin Pauly and Isha Talwar in the lead roles. It got an extra-ordinary reception at the Box-Office.
Thappana
Thappana is based on the work by famous Bengali novelist Ashapurna Debi and directed by Johny Antony. The film stars Mammootty, Charmy Kaur and Murali Gopy in lead roles. Thappana was one of the biggest hits of Mammootty in recent times.
Spirit
Spirit is a satirical film written and directed by Ranjith. The film primarily focuses on the increasing habits of alcoholism in Kerala. It stars Mohanlal, Kaniha and Shankar Ramakrishnan in the lead roles. The film received mixed reviews, but was a superhit.
Second Show
Second Show is a film proceeded as a flashback told by a young ex-convict Hari (Dulquer Salman) to a man he meets at the bus stop on a rainy night. This is Mammootty's son Dulquar Salman's debut film.
Run Baby Run
Run Baby Run is a comedy-thriller film directed by Joshiy, produced by Milan Jaleel and distributed by Galaxy Films. Written by Sachi of the Sachi-Sethu duo, the film stars Mohanlal and Amala Paul in the lead roles. The film was a roaring hit at the Box Office.
Ordinary
Ordinary, directed by Sugeeth and written by Nishad K Koya and Manu Prasad, stars Kunchacko Boban, Biju Menon, Asif Ali, Jishnu, Shritha Sivadas and Ann Augustine in the lead. Ordinary received mixed critical reviews and turned out to be the first blockbuster film of 2012 in Malayalam cinema.
Mallu Singh
Mallu Singh, directed by Vyshakh and written by Sethu stars Unni Mukundan, Kunchacko Boban, Rupa Manjari and Samvrutha Sunil in the lead.
Diamond Necklace
Diamond Necklace, directed by Lal Jose stars Fahad Fazil, Samvrutha Sunil, Gauthami Nair and Anusree in lead roles. The film was a huge hit in metros.
22 Female Kottayam
22 Female Kottayam, directed by Aashiq Abu stars Rima Kallingal and Fahad Fazil in the lead roles. The film deals with the travails of a nurse who was victimised for no fault of hers and who takes revenge on her tormentors in a rather unusual manner.
