Krian Media Acquires US Rights Of Dulquar, Fahad's Movies

Ranjit Thakur, the man who pioneered the Digital Revolution in the exhibition space in India with Scrabble Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, has recently launched Krian Media Ltd. as an extension to servicing of cinemas in the digital space globally. Krian Media which also has a film distribution arm aims at not only catering to domestic markets but to markets which are underexposed to Indian cinema, such as USA, Latin America and some European countries, with the ultimate vision of becoming a single window for release of Indian movies worldwide. Krian Media kicked off by distributing a Hollywood release, GI Joe: Retaliation across India this year.

Following their vision, Krian Media has acquired US theatrical distribution rights for two Malayalam films. Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi is a Malayalam road movie directed and co-produced by Sameer Thahir and written by Hashir Muhammad. The film featured Dulquar Salman, Dhritiman Chatterjee and Sunny Wayne in the lead roles. It will be releasing on 6th September in the US. The other film, North 24 Kaatham has been written and directed by debutant director Anil Radhakrishnan Menon and features Fahad Fazil in the lead role. It is produced by E 4 Entertainment and will be releasing on 20th September, 2013.

Raj Malik, Vice President, Film Acquisition & Distribution, Krian Media highlighted "Understanding the popularity and demand of regional cinema across the globe we aim to deliver the best entertainment to our audiences on a global platform. Through our foray into distribution of films, we are servicing cinema in one or more way and adding to its reach. Apart from domestic distribution, our international reach is established in major markets such as of North America as of now."

The Indian film industry is highly regionalised with the largest language groups supporting major regional industries. In fact regional (especially southern) films bite a huge chunk of the overall Indian film market as they have evolved by leaps and bounds and have been witnessing new trends over time. Although, Bollywood being the biggest film industry in India, the southern film industry is contributing substantially to the market. The US market is concerned as it has been a fast-growing and affluent population of Indian Americans: with 2.5 million people. Many distributors of Bollywood and regional Indian films are growingly eager to broaden their global appeal.
