The actor's recent Facebook post, in which he seeks pardon for Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who is convicted under TADA for his involvement in Mumbai serial blasts case of 1993, is the latest subject of controversy. Mohanlal commented that an actor like Sanjay Dutt, who has been a part of the cinema industry from last 2 decades, should be treated with compassion.
The actor's take on the Sanjay Dutt case stirred up controversies; as Mohanlal serves the post of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. The Mahatma Gandhi National Foundation has filed a complaint against the actor to the President Of India regarding the issue, seeking his removal from the post. According to the latest reports, Ministry of Defence has ordered the Indian Army to conduct an official enquiry upon the issue.
This is not the first time the actor is falling in trouble regarding his Lieutenant Colonel post. Mohanlal earlier received huge criticisms for appearing in the commercial of a popular jewellery brand in military uniform. The actor, who has been nominated for the civilian award Padma Bhushan, is also facing troubles for the possessing ivory without license.
An NGO from Kerala has filed complaint against the actor being nominated for Padma Bhushan, as a case is registered against him under the wildlife protection act. His latest blog, in which he criticizes moral policing has also been in controversies and the actor received social media attacks for criticizing the same. Mohanlal, who is holidaying in Antarctica with family, hasn't commented on the issue yet.
