Priyadarshan Resigns From Kerala Chalachitra Academy

Director
Priyadarshan
has
resigned
from
the
post
of
chairperson
of
Kerala
Chalachitra
Academy.
The
director
on
Wednesday
handed
over
the
resignation
letter
to
the
Minister
of
Cinema,
Thiruvanjoor
Radhakrishnan.
Priyadarshan
was
about
to
complete
the
three-year
term
as
the
chairman
of
Chalachitra
Academy
later
this
month.
But
the
director
decided
to
quit
the
position
before
the
end
of
the
term.
Minister
Thirunvanjoor
Radhakrishnan
confirmed
the
news
in
an
interview.
The
minister
also
stated
that
a
new
governing
committee
will
be
formed
for
the
Chalachitra
Academy
and
the
new
chairperson
will
be
appointed
very
soon.
Reportedly,
acclaimed
director
Rajeevnath
is
in
the
running
to
replace
Priyadarshan.
Priyadarshan
was
appointed
as
the
chairperson
of
Chalachitra
Academy
in
2012
by
his
close
friend
Ganesh
Kumar,
the
former
Minster
of
Cinema.
The
director
was
planning
to
resign
since
the
time
Ganesh
Kumar
has
put
down
his
papers,
citing
internal
political
issues
between
the
academy
members.
The
director
has
mentioned
in
the
resignation
letter
that
he
is
resigning
due
to
his
busy
movie
schedules;
but
the
reports
reveals
a
different
story.
Acclaimed
film
editor
Beena
Paul
had
resigned
from
the
Chalachitra
Academy
last
month,
citing
the
internal
issues.
She
was
an
active
member
and
Deputy
Director
of
Chalachitra
Academy
for
last
12
years.
She
was
also
the
artistic
director
of
International
Film
Festival
of
Kerala.
