Sequel To Njan Gandharvan?

Njan Gandharvan is one of the cult classic movies of Malayalam. The movie is well known for its extra-ordinary craft and exceptional narrative style. It is considered as the best work of veteran director Padmarajan. Njan Gandharvan is his last work as he died within days after its release.

Njan Gandharvan had Television superstar Nitish Bharadwaj and Vaishali fame Suparna Anand playing the lead roles. The movie had an ensemble cast including M G Soman, K B Ganesh Kumar, Philomina, Sulakshana, Vinduja Menon and Tesni Khan.

The movie revolved around the love story between a Gandharvan (according to Hindu Mythology, Gandharvas are the celestial musicians and somaras makers of Devaloka) and Bhama, a college student. The movie got a lukewarm response in the boxoffice; but earned huge positive reviews from critics and eventually earned a classic status. The cinematography and music of the movie got huge appreciation.

Reportedly, associate cinematographer Premjith, who works for Malayalam and Tamil movie industries, is planning to make a sequel on Njan Gandharvan and working on a script for the same. If the sources are to be believed, Nitish Bharadwaj will be reprising his role of Gandharvan in the sequel also. Earlier, Padmarajan's wife Radhalakshmi has stated that no remakes or sequels will be allowed on his works; so the news of the Njan Gandharvan sequel is yet to be confirmed.
