Siddique-Lal is the most popular director duo of Malyalam movies. The duo, who proved their excellent craft with some iconic comedy entertainers, parted ways in 1999 after the success of the popular movie Friends. The duo's decision to part ways was a big shock for the fans and media, who were eagerly waiting for the announcement of their next project.

Rumours about the duo's split started going around, after Siddique announced his decision to be an independent filmmaker, in 1995. Despite the rumours, Siddique debuted as an independent director, with blockbuster movie Hitler which was produced by Lal. Later, Lal produced Siddique's second independent directorial venture Friends.

After the success of Friends, Siddique and Lal jointly announced their decision to take a break from their association and move on with their respective careers. Siddique became a popular director and entered into other South Indian languages; as well as Bollywood. Lal ventured into acting and producing and established himself as one of the most sought out actors of contemporary Malayalam cinema.

Despite the rumours about the ego clash; Siddique and Lal remained as thick friends and stood by each other throughout the thick and thin. The duo announced that they are planning to make a re-union, in an interview given to a popular Malayalam daily. And finally, it has been revealed that they will be joining hands for a new project named King Liar, which will have Dileep in the lead role.

Siddique-Lal wrote their second script for the classic comedy movie Nadodikkattu, directed by Sathyan Anthikad. The movie, which had Mohanlal and Sreenivasan in the lead roles, is considered as one of the iconic comedy flicks of Malayalam cinema. It was later followed by the sequels Pattanapravesham and Akkareyakkareyakkare.

Siddique-Lal made their directorial debut with Ramji Rao Speaking. The movie, which had Mukesh, Saikumar and Innocent in the lead roles, emerged as one of the highest grossers of the year and earned the 'cult comedy' status. It was later followed by the sequels Mannar Mathai Speaking and Mannar Mathai Speaking 2.

In Harihar Nagar was the second directorial venture of Siddique-Lal. The movie had Mukesh, Siddhique, Jagadhish and Ashokan in the lead roles and Suresh Gopi in a cameo appearance. The movie was followed by sequels In Harihar nagar Inn and In Ghost House Inn, which were directed by Lal.

Godfather, which had veteran theatre artist  N N Pillai, Mukesh, Jagadhish, Siddique, Thilakan, Innocent, Kanaka, Philomina, KPAC Lalitha etc in its star cast, emerged as the longest running Malayalam movie of all times. The movie got later remade into Bollywood.

Siddique-Lal penned the script for the movie, which was directed by Paulson. The movie which had Mukesh, Innocent and Saikumar in the lead roles, was a critical and commercial success.

Friends was the last association of Siddique-Lal duo. The movie, directed by Siddique and produced by Lal, was the blockbuster of the year and later got remade into Tamil with the same name, with Vijay and Suriya replacing Jayaram and Mukesh respectively.
