Sequels
and
remakes
have
always
been
a
trend
when
it
comes
to
the
movie
industry.
The
World
Cinema
has
witnessed
some
brilliant
movie
series,
which
reinvented
the
success
formulas
of
the
movie
industry.
When
it
comes
to
Malayalam
movies,
some
iconic
films
have
created
history
with
the
great
critical
and
commercial
success.
Such
films
later
had
sequels
and
remake,
which
has
affected
the
fame
of
the
original
in
both
positive
and
negative
ways.
Malayalam
movie
industry
has
witnessed
some
brilliant
sequels
like
Mammootty
starrer
Oru
CBI
Diary
Kurippu
and
its
sequels,
Mohanlal's
Kireedam-Chenkol
and
Devasuram-Ravanaprabhu,
Siddique
Lal
team's
In
Harihar
Nagar
and
sequels
etc.
But
at
the
same
time,
Mollywood
has
experienced
big
failures
with
the
highly
anticipated
sequels
of
some
iconic
movies,
which
badly
affected
the
goodwill
of
the
original
film.
This
is
the
major
reason,
for
the
reluctance
of
popular
stars
and
filmmakers,
including
Lal
Jose
and
Dulquer
Salmaan
to
be
a
part
of
the
sequels.
Recently,
Mammootty
has
backed
out
from
the
fifth
part
of
Oru
CBI
Diary
Kurippu,
citing
that
he
is
not
interested
in
being
a
part
of
sequels
anymore.
Reportedly,
Mohanlal
has
turned
down
Rajavinte
Makan
2,
due
to
the
same
reason.
There
are
some
disastrous
sequels
of
some
popular
movies,
which
ended
up
as
critical
and
commercial
failures.
Kilukkam
Kilukkam,
Mannar
Mathai
Speaking
2,
Balram
V/s
Tharadas
etc
some
of
the
sequels,
which
miserably
failed
at
box
office.
Check
out
the
slides
to
know
more
about
the
disastrous
sequels
of
Malayalam
Cinema...
Mannar
Mathai
Speaking
2
(Director-Mamas)
The
movie
which
literally
killed
the
goodwill
of
its
cult-classic
prequels Ramji
Rao
Speaking
and
Mannar
Mathai
Speaking.
Doubtlessly
a
bad
decision
made
by
the
lead
actors
Mukesh,
Saikumar
and
Innocent.
Geethanjali
(Director-Priyadarshan)
Even
though
it
is
not
a
sequel;
but
a
spin-off,
we
cannot
move
forward
without
mentioning
Geethanjali.
The
movie
was
a
spin-off
of
the
cult-classic
movie
Manichitrathazhu.
Doubtlessly
one
of
the
worst
films
in
the
careers
of
Mohanlal
and
Priyadarshan.
Kilukkam
Kilukilukkam
(Director-Sandhya
Mohan)
Kilukkam
Kilukilukkam
was
a
literal
murder
of
classic
comedy
Kilukkam.
It
was
highly
pitiable
to
watch
Kavya
Madhavan
in
a
role,
which
is
similar
to
the
one
played
by
Revathi
in
the
original.
Even
Mohanlal's
extended
cameo
couldn't
save
the
movie.
Balram
V/s
Tharadas
(Director-IV
Sasi)
The
disastrous
joined
sequel
of
iconic
films
Inspector
Balram
and
Athirathram,
which
were
directed
by
IV
Sasi
himself.
The
illogical
basic
plot
was
the
main
defect
of
the
film.
Mammootty
sported
one
of
his
worst
onscreen
looks
as
Tharadas
in
the
film.
Sagar
Alias
Jacky
Reloaded
(Director-Amal
Neerad)
Even
though
it
was
a commercial
success,
Sagar
Alias
Jacky
is
considered
as
one
of
the
disappointing
sequels
of
M'town.
The
movie
was
technically
brilliant,
but
Mohanlal
couldn't
bring
back
the
charisma,
which
the
character
had
in
the
original
version.
The
King
And
The
Commissioner
(Director-Shaji
Kailas)
It
was
the
joined
sequel
of
the
yesteryear
blockbusters,
The
King
and
The
Commissioner.
The
movie
failed
to
repeat
the
success
of
its
originals
and
disappointed
the
audience
to
a
great
extent.
The
movie
tested
the
patience
of
audience
with
excess
duration
and
complicated
plot.
Kandahar
(Direction-Major
Ravi)
The
highly
anticipated
Kandahar
failed
to
repeat
the
success
of
its
prequels,
Keerthi
Chakra
and
Kurukshethra.
Even
the
presence
of
legendary
actor
Amithabh
Bachchan
and
our
own
Mohanlal
couldn't
save
the
badly
written
film.
August
15
(Director-Shaji
Kailas)
After
the
huge
failure
of
Drona
2010,
Mammootty
and
Shaji
Kailas
teamed
up
for
August
15
with
huge
expectations.
The
movie,
which
was
a
sequel
of
the
blockbuster
movie
August
1,
failed
to
impress
both
the
audience
and
critics.
