Malayalam Cinema: Highlights Of Last Week

The second week of March (9-15) has been highly eventful for the Malayalam movie industry. M'town witnessed some huge controversies, shocking revelations by the actors, some much awaited trailer and audio releases etc.

Mammootty Vies For National Award

Biggest achievement of Malayalam movie industry, is the entry into National Film Awards final rounds. Reportedly, Mammootty has entered the final round of National Award for Best Actor, for his performance in Munnariyippu, directed by Venu.

Sources suggest that, 11 Malayalam movies, including Munnariyippu, Bangalore Days, Njaan, Oral Pokkam, Aalif, Jalam etc have also entered the final round of National Film awards, under various categories.

Hits Of 2015-Controversies

The most controversial topic of last week was producer Liberty Basheer's statement about the hit movies of 2015. Liberty Basheer has stated that none of the releases in 2015 has entered the hit category; to the much disappointment of the crew members of successful movies.

Popular daily Malayala Manorama published the complete list of successful movies- Mili, Picket 43 and Fireman-and the details about the profit made each films, last week. The producers and distributors of each of these movies have approved the report.

Dileep Thinks About Re-marriage

Another news that shocked the industry was, actor Dileep's revelation about re-marriage. The actor stated that he is thinking about a re-marriage, in the recent interview given to popular women's magazine Vanitha.

Actors Quit Government Ads

Following the Kerala state annual budget, the film actors are planning to quit the government advertisements and events, moving against the government decision to increase the VAT for the copyright and satellite sales of movies, from 14 percent to 19 percent.
