Mohanlal Birthday Special: 10 Interesting Facts About The Actor

Mohanlal, the complete actor of Malayalam movie industry turns 55 today. The actor was born as the second child of Vishwanathan Nair and Santhakumari, at Elanthoor in Pathanamthitta district, on 21st May, 1960. Unlike last year, Mohanlal celebrates this birthday with his family, in Japan this year.

The family shifted to Mudavanmukal, Trivandrum where Mohanlal grew up and spent his childhood. The actor completed his schooling from Model School, Trivandrum. Later, he finished his graduation from Mahatma Gandhi college.

Mohanlal, who shown deep interest in arts and sports from the childhood days, joined the drama club of his school, during his UP classes.

He received his first Best Actor trophy at the age of 12, for his performance in a school drama, named Computer Boy. Interestingly, the actor played a ninety-year-old man in the play.

He made his movie debut with the movie Thiranottam in 1978. The movie, in which he played a mentally retarded boy, remained unreleased for almost 25 years. Mohanlal essayed his first full-fledged role in Fazil's Manjil Virinja Pookkal.

The actor emerged as one of the leading actors of Malayalam movie industry by 1980's. Mohanlal later shed his boy-next-door image by the beginning of 1990's.

Mohanlal has acted in about 330 films, in a career span of 36 years. He has received several awards; including 4 National Award trophies under various categories, 9 Filmfare trophies, 6 Kerala State Film Awards. The Nation has honoured him with Padma Shri, the fourth greatest civilian award of the country.
