Paravoor Bharathan Passes Away

Paravoor Bharathan, the veteran comedian cum character actor passed away. The 86-year-old actor was down with age-related issues since last few years. Bharathan is survived by wife Thankamani, three sons, and a daughter.

The versatile actor began his career with theatre plays in the beginning of 1940's. His wife Thankamani was a former theatre artist, who has acted opposite him in several plays. He has acted in about 1000 films, in a career span of about 60 years.

Bharathan made his movie debut in 1951, with a small role in the popular movie Rakthabandham. He was playing antagonist roles in the initial stages of his film career; but later shifted into comedy and character roles.

Paravoor Bharathan was born to a coir workers family of Vavakkad, North Paravoor, in 1928. He lost his father at a very young age and was raised by his mother, Kurumbakutti. He was active in stage plays since his school days.

He later joined in actor Jose Prakash's theatre group. Bharathan got a major break in films with the movie Karutha Kai, in which he played the antagonist. He also appeared in the song Panchavarna Thatha Pole, in the movie.

He has also acted in the landmark movie Chemmeen. It is notable that Bharathan has passed away in the 50th anniversary of Chemmeen. The cremation ceremony will take place tomorrow, at his hometown Vavkkad.
