Malayalam Cinema 2015: Top 15 Songs Of The Year

By Akhila Menon

Malayalam Cinema is all set to bid goodbye to 2015 with some highly anticipated Christmas releases. It is the time to evaluate the achievements of the industry at various categories in the passing year. So, let us have a look into the musical journey of Malayalam Cinema in 2015.

2015 was a good year for the Malayalam film music industry. The major achievement of the musical industry this year was Gopi Sundar's National Award. Gopi won the National Film Award for Best Background Score, for his work in Abrid Shine's 1983.

Some popular movies of the year, including Premam, Ennu Ninte Moideen, Kohinoor etc turned up to be the real musical treats for the audience. Premam stands out in the crowd with its stunningly different musical album; while Ennu Ninte Moideen earned appreciations for the soulful music.

Kohinoor was a great comeback for Rahul Raj, who is undoubtedly one of the most underrated musicians of the industry. It is commendable that the film music is going back to the glorious melody era; unlike the last few highly disappointing years.

When it comes to the music composition, Bijibal and Gopi Sundar top the list with the maximum number of movies. It is praiseworthy that both the musicians equally excel in songs and background score. But we would like them to cut down the number of movies, so that they can avoid making repetitive songs.

2015 undoubtedly belongs to Vijay Yesudas, who has already established himself as the leading male singer of the industry. Vijay stole the hearts with some exceptional songs, including Malare (Premam), Kannondu Chollanu (Ennu Ninte Moideen), Hemanthamen (Kohinoor) etc.

Among the female singers, it is Shreya Ghoshal who made a mark with some beautiful melodies. Her prominent songs include Kannondu Chollanu, Kaathirunnu (Ennu Ninte Moideen), Mele Mele (Life Of Josutty), Mohabbat Mein (Anarkali) etc.

Popular singers, including P Jayachandran, Hariharan, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Najim Arshad, Swetha Mohan, Shahabas Aman, Manjari etc also excelled with some exceptional songs this year. The new sensations in the field are Mohammed Maqbool Mansoor (Mukkathe Penne) and KS Harishankar (Various Songs).
