2016 has been the year of divorces, for the Malayalam cinema industry. Mollywood witnessed the sad end of several highly publicised celebrity marriages this year. The list includes Amala Paul-AL Vijay, Lissy-Priyadarshan, Divya Unni-Dr. Sudhir etc.
Mollywood has seen some really messy celebrity divorces, which shocked both the film industry members and audiences equally. When some star couples chose to part ways with mutual respect and dignity, some others went on to wash the dirty linen in public.
When compared to the other language industries, the celebrity divorce and break-up rate is very in our industry. But still, it is evident that the divorce rate is increasing year by year among the Malayalam movie celebrities.

Mukesh-Saritha
Undoubtedly one of the ugliest divorces of the industry. As per records, the couple parted ways in 2011 and later divorced. But, Saritha claimed that they are not officially divorced, when Mukesh decided to remarry. Her allegation eventually led to an ugly spat between the duo.
Urvashi-Manoj K Jayan
Urvashi and Manoj K Jayan tied the knot in 2000, after a few years of courtship. Manoj filed for divorce in 2008, stating her addiction to alcohol and lack of the commitment as the reasons. The couple had a huge fallout during the divorce proceedings and continuously slammed each other on media.
Sreenath-Shanthi Krishna
Sreenath and Shanthi Krishna parted ways on a bitter note, after 11 years of marriage. According to the grapevine, Shanthi had slammed Sreenath for his luxurious lifestyle and irresponsible behaviour, while Sreenath retaliated stating that Shanthi was behind fame and money.
Kavya Madhavan-Nishal Chandra
Kavya Madhavan and Nishal Chandra started living separately after a few months of marriage. They later legally ended their relationship. When Kavya alleged that her husband and relatives were torturing her for dowry, Nishal shockingly stated that they are parting ways due to her alleged affair with a co-actor.
Dileep-Manju Warrier
Even though the highly celebrated star couple parted ways on a peaceful note, the social media took the whole issue into a new level. While Dileep fans accused Manju Warrier for the divorce, the actress's fans refuted stating it is Dileep's alleged affair with Kavya Madhavan, which affected their marriage.
Saikumar-Prasanna Kumari
Saikumar and Prasanna Kumari parted ways after a really messy legal battle. Prasanna accused actress Bindu Panicker as the reason for the divorce and alleged that Saikumar left her during the time of illness. Saikumar, on the other hand, alleged that Prasanna cheated him and harassed him for money.
Priyadarshan-Lissy
The star couple filed for divorce after a 24-year-long married life, in December 2015. Lissy recently went on to state that their marriage was completely respectless and problematic, Priyadarshan states that it was small ego clashes which led to the divorce. The duo has been constantly accusing each other for the divorce, through the media.
Amala Paul-AL Vijay
The director-actress couple parted ways after a short-lived married life in August 2015. AL Vijay accused Amala Paul for breaking the trust in the relationship, while his family and media slammed her for her modern lifestyle. However, Amala has been maintaining silence over the issue.
Apart from these publicised celebrity divorces, Malayalam cinema has also witnessed some real ugly break-ups. There are some celebrity couples who broke off their relationship just before entering the wedlock.
The list includes Shankar Panicker-Ambika and Babu Antony-Charmila, who called off their marriage at the last minute. Shockingly, Charmila had also attempted to commit suicide after her break-up with Babu Antony.
