When 'Spooky' Films Made It Big In Mollywood

The trailer of Jayaram's upcoming movie Aadupuliyattam has released online. From the trailers it is quite sure that the film is on the lines of a horror-thriller.

There have been a number of movies which have tried out this genre. But, only a few of them have been successful. Let us take a look at those successful movies.

Bhargavi Nilayam (1964)

This film is considred to be a cult classic and it is sure to give a chill down the spine even when you watch it now. The film directed by A Vincent had Madhu and Prem Nazir in lead roles.

Lisa (1978)

Lisa is one of the most successful Malayalam films of this genre. Considered to be a film with lot of scary sequences. This film event went on to have a sequel named Veendum Lisa.

Sreekrishna Parunthu (1984)

A Vincent yet again tried his hands on a horror flick, which eventually turned out to be a successful film. Sreekrishna Parunthu had Mohanlal in the lead role.

Manichithrathazhu (1993)

Well, no introduction is required for this films which is undoubtedly the best among this list. Even though the film was a psychological thriller, it had its own share of sequences that evoked fear among the people.

Aakasha Ganga (1999)

Aakashaganga directed by Vinayan is one of the biggest hits of his career. The film had Divya Unni playing the lead role along with actors like Mukesh, Innocent, Jagathi etc.

Indriyam (2000)

Indriyam came at a time when horror thrillers were on demand. This film which had Vani Viswanath in the lead role, along with other youngsters, went on to become a hit.

Vellinakshatram (2004)

Vinayan yet again tried his hands on horror genre with this film. Prithviraj played the lead role in this film and the film emerged as a winner in the box office.

Aadupuliyattam which has been directed by Kannan Thamarakkulam has Ramya Krishnan, Sampath, Ramesh Pisharady, Sheelu Abraham etc in important role. It also has Om Puri doing an important role in it.

Jayaram has earlier acted in films like Moonamathoral, Winter, Kanakanmani, Manthrikan etc, all of which were on the lines of horror genre.

The trailer suggests that Jayaram would be seen in a mass avatar in this film. Jayaram has opted for a makeover in this film with sporting a stylish beard.

The film definitely is an important one for Jayaram, as the actor is going through a lean phase. Let us hope that the film would mark a powerful comeback of the actor.
