Mollywood has pinned up high hopes on the year-end season as a good number of Malayalam movies are in the pipeline, to hit the theatres during the Christmas season.
As many as 4 big Malayalam movies are gearing up to hit the theatres and definitely, this year's Christmas season is going to be a star studded one.
Mohanlal, Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj and Jayasurya would fight it out at the box office with their respective movies and we need to wait to know who would emerge as the big winner of the season.
Well, the Christmas season of the past 5 years have been a mixed bag for the industry. In fact, there have been instances when none of the Christmas releases turned out to be hits.

2015
The Christmas season of 2015 was indeed a good one for the Malayalam film industry. Out of the 4 big releases, three of them turned out to be profitable ventures. Dileep's Two countries was the top earner, whereas Dulquer Salmaan's Charlie closely followed. Dhyan Sreenivasan starrer Adi Kapyare Kootamani also entered the hit chart.
2014
The Christmas season of 2014 was rather a dull one for the Malayalam film industry. The superstars didn't have any release during the season. Among the releases, only Vysakh's Cousins managed an average collection. At the same time, it also has to be noted that Cousins was a flop at the box office.
2013
No prizes for guessing the big winner of the Christmas season of 2013. Drishyam, which had a moderate start at the box office, emerged as the big winner of the Christmas season. Sathyan Anthikkad's Oru Indian Pranayakatha, also entered the hit chart and at the same time Lal Jose's Ezhu Sundara Raathrikal failed to make a mark.
2012
During the Christmas season of 2012, Mammootty and Mohanlal had a release each in the form of Baavuttiyude Namathil and Karmayodha, respectively. Aashiqu Abu's Da Thadiya and B Unnikrishnan's I Love Me also hit the theatres during the season. Only Da Thadiya and Baavuttiyude Namathil managed to do decent business at the box office.
2011
The Christmas season of 2011 again, was not a good one for the Malayalam film industry. In fact, the season witnessed the movies of Mammootty and Mohanlal clashing at the box office. Mohanlal's Arabiyumm Ottakavum P Madhavan Nayarum, Mammootty's Venicile Vyapari and Dileep's Vellaripraavinte Changaathi were the big releases of the season. Only, Mohanlal's movie made it to the above average league.
We really believe that this year's Christmas is going to be a real special one for Malayalam film industry as all the Malayalam films lined up for release are promising ones.
Dulquer Salmaan will kick-start the race with his Jomonte Suvisheshangal, which would hit the theatres on December 16, 2016. Mohanlal's Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol will hit the theatres on December 22, 2016. Jayasurya's Fukri will release a day later, on December 23, 2016. Prithviraj's Ezra is also expected to hit the theatres in the same weekend.
