Leela is the satirical movie directed and produced by Ranjith, with Biju Menon in the lead role. The movie is based on Unni R's popular short film of the same name.

Leela Story

Cast & Performances

Biju Menon is exceptionally brilliant as Kuttiyappan. The actor pulls off the character so effortlessly and scores with his amazing comical timing. Vijayaraghavan is excellent as Pillechan and once again proves as he is one of the finest actors in the town.

The greatest surprise of the movie is Jagadhish, who plays Nair. It is the career best performance of the actor. Parvathy Nambiar, who plays Leela, makes a mark with her amazingly natural screen presence.

The rest of the cast, including Suresh Krishna, Sudheer Karamana, Kochu Preman, Parvathy, Priyanka, etc are perfect in their respective roles.

Script & Direction

Unni R, the writer has perfectly transformed the well-known short story into a tightly packed screenplay, without losing its real essence even a bit.

The sharp, crispy, dialogues is another plus factor. But the elements of black humour in the dialogues may not go well with certain audience groups.

Ranjith has completely succeeded in bringing out the best from all his actors. The director once again proves that he is one of the most brilliant craftsmen of Malayalam cinema.

Technical Aspects

Prashant Ravindran's scores with the brilliant cinematography, which makes the movie a striking visual experience. Manoj Kannoth's editing is perfect, as the movie flows in the same rhythm from the beginning till the climax.

Songs & Background Score

Bijibal's songs are catchy, especially the song Vattolam Vaaniyare, sung by Biju Menon. The musician deserves great applause for the fantastic background score, which creates the perfect mood for the movie.

Verdict

A wild, haunting, yet classy movie experience. But, at the same time, Leela is not everyone's cup of tea.
