Mimicry stages are often considered to be a platform that could help you to get into films. We have had many actors who started off as mimicry artists and later on turned to be successful actors in films.

So, here we present some of the popular Malayalam actors with Mimicry background.

Jayaram

It was probably Jayaram, who made this trend hugely popular. Jayaram was a member of the Kalabhavan mimicry troupe and was an active participant in most of their shows. He made a successful transformation to the silver screen from stage.

Dileep

Dileep

Dileep always had an interest for acting in the back of his mind. He along with Nadirshah, formed a formidable pair and went on to make the popular mimicry cassette Dhe Maveli Kombathu. Simultaneously, he followed his passion for acting and became the Janapriya Nayakan.

Salimkumar

Salimkumar

Salim Kumar has won numerous awards for his mimicry performances in college days. Later, he joined Cochin Kalabhavan and performed on various stages. He grabbed the opportunities that he got to feature in films and made big out of it. He also went on to win the National Award for Best Actor for his performance in Adaminte Makan Abu.

Lal

Lal

Lal, who has won two Kerala State Awards for Best actor was a part of Cochin Kalabhavan troupe along with his friend Siddique. Lal, later switched into acting and has had a highly successful career so far.

Kalabhavan Mani

Kalabhavan Mani started his career performing for Kalabhavan at various stages. Like most of his contemporaries, the actor too landed in films, first as a comedian and later as one of the bankable heroes of Malayalam cinema.

Cochin Haneefa

Not many know that Cochin Haneefa was also a part of the Cochin Kalabhavan troupe. He debuted in films as a villain, but later switched to the comedy track. He was more than a comedian and was one of the finest character actors of Malayalam cinema.

Actor Jayasurya too, has a mimicry background to talk about. In his earlier days, he did perform mimicry and also was a television host.

Suraj Venjaramoodu

Suraj Venjaramoodu

This National Award winner had performed at various stages as a mimicry artist. He later did some mini roles in films before landing up in bigger opportunities. With time, he reinvented himself and went on to win the National Award for his performance in the film Perariyathavar.

Harisree Ashokan

Harisree Asokan, before entering films did work with two troupes. First with Cochin Kalabhavan and then with Harisree. After a successful stint as a mimicry artist, he launched to Mollywood to become one of the finest comedians of Malayalam films.

It is a long list as the Malayalam film industry has found a number of talents from various mimicry stages.

Actors who came from mimicry background were ridiculed by critics, once. But, it is to be noted that, mimicry troupes have given not only comedians but also some great character actors for Malayalam cinema.

Cochin Kalabhavan is the famous mimicry troupe which produced some of the finest actors of Malayalam cinema. Actors like Jayaram, Dileep, Salim Kumar, Kalabhavan Mani, Sainudeen etc were a part of this troupe.

Apart from that, directors like Siddique-Lal and Rafi-Mecartin too, have had their roles in various mimicry stages.

Director Fazil along with his friend Nedumudi Venu had formed a mimicry troupe during their college days and performed at various stages.

Not many know that, Megastar Mammooty too, had performed mimicry. Inspired from Nedumudi Venu and Fazil, the actor too, formed a troupe during his college days.

Apart from the above mentioned actors there are artists like Kottayam Nazeer, Tini Tom, Saju Navodaya, Kalabhavan Shajon, Ramesh Pisharody etc, all of them who have their roots attached to mimicry stages.
