The Elite 300 Club: Malayalam Films That Completed 300 Days Of Run At Theatres!
Mollywood hasn't had the chance to bring up a list like the 100 Crore club in Bollywood, Kollywood and Tollywood as the market of Malayalam films is comparatively lesser.
But, Malayalam films could definitely make up an 'Elite 300 club', which would consist of Malayalam films that ran for more than 300 days at theatres.
Here we list some of the Malayalam films which completed 300 days or more in the theatres. Go through the slides to know more about the films..
Godfather (1991)
Godfather directed by Siddique-Lal has the distinction of being the longest running film in the history of Malayalam cinema. The film ran for 404 days at a theatre in Trivandrum. The film ran for 97 days in regular shows and later it was reduced to a single show.
Chithram (1988)
Chithram is one of the longest running films in the history of Malayalam cinema. The film also holds the record of completing 300 days in maximum number of theatres, that too, in regular shows.
Kilukkam (1991)
Kilukkam directed by Priyadarshan went on to break many box office records. The film was the first Malayalam film to gross 5 Crores at the box-office. Kilukkam too, crossed 300 days in a couple of theatres.
Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha (1989)
Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha is one such film that became a big hit in award circuits as well as, in the theatres. The film did run for more than 300 days in selected theatres.
Manichithrathazhu (1993)
Manichithrathazhu enjoyed a phenomenal run at the theatres. The film crossed 300 days in three theatres and went on to become a cult-classic. No wonder why Manichithrathazhu, is one of the films which has been remade to most number of languages.
Hitler (1996)
Hitler, directed by Siddique-Lal did break many box office records back then. The film went on to complete 300 days of run at the theatres. It did also holds the record for the maximum number of housefull shows in theatres.
Oru CBI Diarykurippu (1988)
Oru CBI Diarykurippu had a sensational run in Tamil Nadu just like Kerala. The film completed 300 days of run at Safire theatre in Chennai.
Premam (2015)
Well, Premam might not have completed 300 days of run at theatres in Kerala, but, it definitely achieved this landmark in Tamil Nadu. Premam, did have a phenomenal run at a theatre in Chennai when it completed 300 days of run at that particular theatre.
Well, films completing 300 days in theatres are a rarity nowadays, with exceptions like Premam and Drishyam which had a phenomenal run at the theatres.
Nowadays, it is even hard to pinpoint movies that completed 100 days of run at theatres. It is not that the quality of the films have come down, but with multiplexes coming into action and wide release coming into foray, we can't expect a film to complete 300 days of run at a theatre.
But, with the number of theatres increasing, the collections have also soared to new heights. Even though, we are yet to cross the 100 Crores mark, Malayalam film industry can proudly say that they have made it to 50 Crores club with films like Premam, Drishyam, Ennu Ninte Moideen etc. entering the club.
