How many times have we seen films coming with huge hype, going down without traces? In fact, huge hype had turned out to be a negative factor for some films.
But, there are a few Malayalam movies that met the expectations of the people, thereby tasting commercial and critical successes.

Kammatipaadam (2016)
Rajeev Ravi joining hands with Dulquer Salmaan and that too, for a story based on the life of gangsters. What else is required for the readings in the expectation metre to soar to new heights? The film upon its release, received unanimously positive reviews and turned out to be a critical and commercial success.
Action Hero Biju (2016)
Action Hero Biju had all the necessary hype, as it was the next film of Nivin Pauly, after his blockbuster Premam. Initially, the reports were negative for the film, but later on, the film cruised to be a big box-office success. More importantly, it met the huge expectations of the viewers.
Charlie (2015)
Charlie, by far is one of the most hyped movies of Dulquer Salmaan, so far. Directed by Martin Prakkat and scripted by Unni R, the film took a grand opening and it fetched great reviews from the day one itself. The film also went on to win multiple State awards.
Bangalore Days (2014)
Bangalore Days, had an amazing pre-release hype. And why not? The film had all the major young stars of Mollywood along with Anjali Menon, who helmed the project. The film upon its release, garnered great reviews and thereby turned out to be a big blockbuster.
Ustad Hotel (2012)
The second film of Dulquer Salmaan had huge hype surrounding it. The names of Anwar Rasheed, Anjali Menon, Thilakan, Dulquer Salmaan etc. raised the expectations about the project. Well, the expectations of the viewers didn't go wrong and the film is still regarded as a classic.
It is not an easy task to live up to the huge expectations. Most of the films in this list went on to achieve this feat with elan. It has to be noted that the list has been assembled not just by looking into the box-office success. The quality of the films has also been considered.

It has to be noted that Malayalam films like Drishyam and Premam, which are the biggest hits in the history of Malayalam cinema, didn't have a huge pre-release hype like most of the films present in this list.
