Onam season has always remained one of the best for Malayalam film industry with many Malayalam films hitting the theatres. The box office collections are also on the higher side during this season.
The year 2016 is also gearing up to witness the release of some interesting movies during the upcoming Onam season. Here, we list the Malayalam movies, which are sure to hit the theatres during the Onam season.

Oozham
Prithviraj and Jeethu Joseph are back together with the revenge drama Oozham. The film would hit the theatres on September 8, 2016. The film teaser as well as the song teaser of Oozham have created the required hype and the film is one of the most awaited films of the season.
Oppam
This time, Priyadarshan is coming with a thriller and Mohanlal would be seen in the role of a lift operator, who is blind. The trailer of the film cut by Alphonse Puthren did raise the expectations about the film and it seems like Priyadarshan has something new to offer. The film would hit the theatres on September 9, 2016.
Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho
Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho, which marks the comeback of the renowned production house Udaya Pictures, has Kunchacko Boban in the lead role. The film directed by Sidhartha Siva is expected to hit the theatres during the Onam season.
Welcome To Central Jail
Dileep is all set to make this Onam season a grand one, with a festival entertainer in the form of Welcome To Central Jail. The film directed by Sundar Das and scripted by Benny P Nayarambalam, is touted to be a comedy entertainer. The film is expected to hit the theatres on the Onam day.
Janatha Garage
Janatha Garage is one of the most awaited films of this season. The film directed by Koratala Siva has Jr NTR, Mohanlal, Unni Mukundan, Rahman, Samantha, Nithya Menen etc. in important roles. The Malayalam version of the film would hit the theatres on September 2, 2016.
Ore Mukham
Ore Mukham, which is touted to be a campus based thriller has Dhyan Sreenivasan, in an all new avatar. The film also features Aju Varghese in an important role. The shoot of the film has been completed and the film is expected to hit the theatres during Onam season.
Some of the films, which were earlier expected to hit the theatres during the Onam season have been pushed to other dates.
Mammootty starrer Thoppil Joppan was expected to hit the theatres during Onam season, but now the release date has been postponed to October 7, 2016.
Similarly, the upcoming Dulquer Salmaan-Amal Neerad movie was also earlier scheduled as an Onam release. The film is also expected to hit the theatres in the month of October.
Apart from the above mentioned films, the upcoming Onam season would also witness the release of a couple of other language films, which are high on expectations.
Vikram starrer Irumugan, would hit the theatres on September 2, 2016. The film has Nayanthara and Nithya Menen in the female leads.
Dhanush and Keerthy Suresh starrer Thodari would also hit the theatres on September 2, 2016. The film has been directed by Prabhu Solomon.
