This is a common scenario in Bollywood where old films are being remade. Most of the times they opted for the same title.
Malayalam films too, have used the same title while remaking movies. Films like 'Chattakkaari', 'Neelathamara', 'Rathinirvedam' etc had used the same title as of their originals.
There are also certain cases when the title has to remain the same. For eg: a movie named Pazhassi Raja was released in the year 1964 which told the life of the king.
MT-Hariharan team decided to bring the life of Pazhassi Raja on screen and even though it was not a remake, they had to opt the same title as it was a biopic.
Tamil films, of late, have started using the titles of their old films which were super-hits. These kind of techniques to help in the marketing of the film.
