The
year
of
2016
is
in
its
last
leg.
We
are
almost
half-way
through
the
month
of
December
and
the
Malayalam
film
industry
has
a
few
more
releases
on
the
store,
in
the
form
of
some
big
Christmas
releases.
Unfortunately,
actor
Mammootty
won't
have
a
Christmas
release
in
2016.
So,
the
actor
has
almost
wrapped
up
the
year,
as
far
as
his
movie
releases
are
concerned.
In
fact,
the
actor
had
lesser
number
of
releases
in
comparison
with
the
previous
years.
The
year
saw
four
Mammootty
movies
making
it
to
the
theatres
and
let's
see
how
the
year
was
for
Mammootty.
Puthiya
Niyamam
Mammootty
started
off
this
year
with
A
K
Sajan's
directorial
venture
Puthiya
Niyamam.
The
film,
made
it
to
the
theatres
in
the
month
of
February
and
got
released
amidst
the
grand
run
of
Maheshinte
Prathikaaram
and
Action
Hero
Biju.
Puthiya
Niyamam,
received
some
glorious
reviews
upon
its
release
and
had
a
good
start.
But,
the
film
couldn't
maintain
the
same
momentum.
Verdict:
Hit
Kasaba
Kasaba,
which
marked
the
debut
of
Nithin
Renji
Panicker,
was
undoubtedly
one
of
the
most
awaited
Mammootty
movies
of
the
year
2016.
The
film
made
a
grand
release
during
the
Eid
season
and
the
actor
once
again
proved
his
crowd-pulling
capability
with
the
film
making
a
record
opening.
But,
the
movie
received
mixed
reviews,
which
hampered
the
progress
of
the
movie.
Nevertheless,
the
film
grossed
above
15
Crores
approximately

did
face
multiple
postponements
before
finally
getting
a
release
date
on
July

2016.
Sadly,
the
film
opened
to
extremely
poor
reviews
and
couldn't
make
an
impact
at
the
box
office.

Once
again,
Mammootty
came
up
with
an
entertainer,
with
a
humorous
background.
The
film,
released
with
Pulimurugan,
but
still
managed
to
host
a
decent
show
upon
release.
The
film
opened
to
mixed
reviews
and
reportedly,
went
on
to
gross
above
10
Crores
and
ended
up
as
a
hit
at
the
box
office.
Verdict:
Hit
As
far
as
box
office
successes
are
concerned,
the
year
was
a
decent
one
for
Mammootty.
But,
the
actor
was
clearly
missing
a
real
big
hit,
something
in
the
lines
of
Mohanlal's
Oppam
and
Pulimurugan,
which
would
have
undoubtedly
silenced
all
of
his
critics.
It
also
has
to
be
noted
that,
none
of
the
Mammootty
movies
received
overwhelming
positive
reviews.
In
2015,
the
actor
had
Pathemaari,
which
won
him
great
reviews
from
all
sectors.
Clearly,
we
missed
such
a
performance-oriented
role
from
Mammootty
in
2016.
Meanwhile,
Mammootty's
next
release
would
be
Haneef
Adeni's
The
Great
Father,
which
would
hit
th
theatres
in
January
2017.
